Care Costs

How Much Does Home Care Cost in Tunbridge Wells?

A plain-English guide to private home care prices in Tunbridge Wells, Pembury and Tonbridge, written by me — Borbala Kiss, the carer you will actually see at the door.

What home care actually costs

My standard visiting care rate is £30 per hour, and overnight care starts from £23 per hour. Those two figures cover the great majority of what I do, because home care is charged by the hour rather than by the task. A one-hour visit in the morning to help you wash, dress and have breakfast costs the same as a one-hour visit spent on shopping, laundry and a chat.

Because there are no agency overheads behind Carekind at Home, there are no hidden extras. You are not charged for travel within Tunbridge Wells, Pembury and Tonbridge, there is no registration fee, and there is no minimum contract that ties you in for months. Bank holidays are charged at a slightly higher rate, which I will always confirm with you before it applies.

How many hours a week will I need?

Most people start with a small number of visits and adjust as they go. Someone recovering after a hospital stay might want an hour every morning for a few weeks. A person living with dementia may prefer two shorter visits a day, one at the start of the day and one in the evening. Others simply want company and a little practical help two or three times a week.

There is no right answer, and nothing is fixed in advance. We agree a plan together, try it for a few weeks, and change it whenever your needs change. If you find you need less help than you expected, we reduce the visits. If you need more, I will tell you honestly whether I can meet that need myself.

Paying for care privately

Carekind at Home is a private, self-funded service, which means you pay for the care you receive directly. Some families use savings, some use a personal budget or a direct payment from their local authority, and some are supported by family members. I invoice fortnightly with a clear breakdown of visits, so you can always see exactly what you are paying for.

If you are unsure whether you might be entitled to financial support with care costs, it is worth speaking to Kent County Council about a care needs assessment. That conversation is free and separate from anything we agree together. I am also happy to talk through costs openly with you and your family, with no pressure to commit to anything.
