Preparing for Your First Care Visit

Feeling a little nervous before your first care visit is completely natural — for you and your family alike. Knowing what to expect makes it much easier.

The assessment comes first

Before care begins, I arrange a personalised care assessment. This is an informal conversation about what you need, what you like and how you want your day to look. Nothing is set in stone — your care plan is shaped around you, and it can change whenever your needs do.

Think about what matters to you

It helps to write down the little things in advance: how you take your tea, which routines you never want to change, what you like to chat about. The best care relationships are built on these details. With a consistent, personal carer, knowing your preferences is exactly what makes visits feel comfortable rather than clinical.

On the day

Your carer will arrive at the agreed time, introduce themselves and follow the plan you shaped together — whether that is help with washing and dressing, preparing a meal, a walk outside or simply some friendly company. There is no rush; my shortest visit is a full hour, so there is always time to do things properly.

After the visit

It is normal to take a week or two to settle into a new routine. I check in regularly to make sure everything feels right, and you can raise any changes at any point. Good care is a partnership, and your feedback is always welcome.
